Leonard Nimoy

“…To go boldly where no one has gone before,” was certainly a mission that the late Leonard Nimoy has accomplished in his lifetime. Mr. Spock had begun his acting career at the age of 8 while performing in a children’s and neighborhood theatre. His first major role came when he was 17 as he was casted in an amateur production dealing with the struggles of the Great Depression. It was a role that really ignited his passion for acting. But even then his career in acting didn’t take off until much later.

Through his life, Nimoy played over 50 smaller parts in B movies and television shows. It was not enough to support his family though and he also looked for other odd jobs to supplement his income such as delivering newspapers, working in pet shops and driving cabs. No one can say that he did not work hard to reach the fame that he would come to command.

Nimoy’s career truly skyrocketed once he found his role as the half-vulcan, half-human Star Trek character, Spock. His character became so iconic that he was recognized as one of the most popular aliens ever portrayed on television. His fame nearly out shadowed the star of the show, William Shatner’s Captain Kirk. The two actors became great friends, having worked together once before on another show. Following the conclusion of the Star Trek series, Nimoy continued to gain fame as he took on more television roles, guest appearances, starring in plays, writing books and directing.

Leonard Nimoy truly lived his famous phrase to “live long and prosper.” It is an honor to place his name among the stars as we dedicate one of them in his honor. Hopefully his star will shine as bright as the light that he spread during his lifetime. You will not be forgotten, Mr. Spock.
